Kidde FM-200 (Heptafluoropropane) is a colourless and odourless gas, considered a clean agent fire suppressant, safe for humans. Used as an alternative Halon 1301 and environmentally friendly. On discharge, molecules absorb heat, stopping combustion by lowing temperature. Systems use fast-opening corrosion-resistant GX20 valves to extinguish most fires within 60 seconds.
FM-200 is stored as a liquid in nitrogen pressurised cylinders at 25 bar pressure providing rapid discharge for fire suppression. For use in sealed or enclosed areas, air conditioning systems should be deactivated before suppressant discharge to maintain a still environment to ensure system effectiveness.
Compatible with older Halon 1301 equipment, cylinder capacity is 1.5 times that of Halon, meaning less storage space is required.
Discharge nozzles can be custom designed with 180° wall-mounted and 360° ceiling-mounted types. On activation, some visual obscuration may impair evacuation; however, the low concentration of agent required (8-10.5%) poses minimal risk to personnel.
