Kidde Novec 1230 is a synthetic, clean agent used to extinguish fires, replacing Halon. Considered a green gas, it has the shortest atmospheric lifetime for halocarbon alternatives, just five days, resulting in a global warming potential of less than one and zero ozone depletion potential.
Stored as a liquid pressured by Nitrogen and discharged as a gas, providing an 80% smaller footprint than inert gas systems. Novec 1230 stops combustion by absorbing heat; sensors typically release the agent in less than 10 seconds at the early fire stage, extinguishing in under 40 seconds. The process does not deplete Oxygen, meaning it is safer for humans.
A colourless, low-odour fluid with a density around 11 times that of air may fog up on initial discharge, but this clears in seconds, allowing for a safe escape. Flooding requires sealed areas for it to be effective.
