The Bowthorpe EMP SC12 is a surge counter, whereas the SC13 also measures the total leakage current shown by a dial display. An integrated counter on both models logs the spikes or surges. They have been tested with a variety of surge arresters.
A means of monitoring the current through the arrester and the leakage current over the surface of the arrester housing. Significant changes after installation may indicate a deterioration in the arrester or a build-up of surface contamination.
These instruments, which require no auxiliary supply, are designed for installation in the earth connections of a single surge arrester, or the SC12 may be used with the common earth of a three-phase set.
Enclosed in a one-piece die-cast aluminium housing, suitable for indoor or outdoor deployment, resistant to corrosion and water ingress. The glass viewing window is sealed to the unit using silicon rubber adhesive, and an inbuilt desiccator counters any moisture that may have penetrated during sealing.
A galvanised steel M12 bolt is included for installation; an integral lug at the back of the outer case provides a clearance hole for bolt insertion.
The units require no special maintenance or servicing, except general cleaning the glass viewing window and the moulded epoxy resin line terminal bushing.
The surge counters can be supplied with an auxiliary contact rated 0.5 amps 250V for connection to remote signalling equipment. If required, put suffix AC: SC12/AC or SC13/AC.
