The Drager X-am 5000 gas detector uses XXS sensors for oxygen and toxic gases, which are easily replaced and calibrated. The sensors have a typical lifetime of four years. Combustible gas is measured with a poison-resistant catalytic Ex sensor. Additionally, three electrochemical sensors can be added; if a dual toxic CO/H2S sensor is installed, simultaneous measurement of up to five gases is possible.
Sensor warranty is three years; for core gases CO, O2 and H2S, five-year warranty versions are available. Other gases detectable are CO2, Cl2, HCN, NH3, NO, NO2, PH3, SO2, H2, OV, O3 and Amine.
The operation is driven by two buttons, with simple-to-use menus. If gas concentrations are detected, a 360° red visual alarm is activated (pictured), along with an audible multi-tone alarm at 90 dB. The monitor also vibrates, permitting use in noisy environments.
